Phantom’s Lament

The Phantom’s Lament: A Gothic Heart’s Caution

Declare not your love, if your soul bears no flame,

For hollow words, like specters, haunt my fragile frame,

Speak not of tender bonds, if they’re woven with deceit,

A heart like mine, so shadowed, dreads a traitor’s fleeting beat.

Clasp not my trembling hand, if you’ll shatter it with scorn,

For broken promises, like thorns, leave a spirit worn,

Stare not into my gaze, with untruths in your eyes so cold,

Nor whisper soft hellos, if farewells are what you hold.

If you swear an endless vow, let your effort prove its worth,

For “forever” cuts like frost, on this gothic, mournful earth,

In twilight’s eerie glow, where love and grief entwine,

Speak only what is true, or leave me to my shrine.
